Steampunk gives photographers and artists an unusually rich world to work with: dramatic clothing, handmade props, distinctive characters and some of Britain’s most atmospheric locations.
Photography at events
Always ask before taking close portraits, especially when children are involved. A spectacular costume is not automatic permission for unlimited photography.
Build a story into the image
The most memorable photographs often suggest something beyond the costume. Who is the character? What are they doing? What might be happening just outside the frame?
Work with makers
Photographers can help independent makers enormously by creating strong images of clothing, jewellery, props and other work. Collaborative shoots can benefit everyone involved.

Steampunk UK wants to feature photography, artwork, builds and other creative projects from across Britain. Finished work is welcome, but so are the stories behind how it was made.
