Steampunk UK Podcast Broadcaster Agreement
These Terms and Conditions govern participation as a volunteer podcast broadcaster on the Steampunk UK platform. By submitting an application, creating an account, paying the applicable membership fee and selecting “I Agree”, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be legally bound by these Terms and Conditions.
1. About Steampunk UK
Steampunk UK is a British community dedicated to promoting steampunk culture through podcasts, interviews, live broadcasts, events, creators, performers and original content. Participation as a broadcaster is intended to support and grow the community.
2. Membership
To broadcast on Steampunk UK you must hold a current annual membership. Membership options are:
- One-hour weekly programme — $80 GBP per year — one scheduled one-hour broadcast per week.
- Two-hour weekly programme — $110 GBP per year — one scheduled two-hour broadcast per week.
Membership fees are non-refundable except where required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Membership expires twelve months after payment.
3. Volunteer Participation
Broadcasters participate as volunteers. Membership fees contribute towards hosting, streaming infrastructure, website costs, administration, promotion and development of the Steampunk UK community. Membership does not create employment, partnership or contractor status.
4. Broadcast Content
Broadcasters may present: interviews, discussions, festival reports, community news, storytelling, audio dramas, steampunk history, reviews, educational content and original spoken programmes.
At this stage music broadcasting is not permitted. This restriction includes commercial music, recorded songs, live music performances and background music that is intentionally included. Minor incidental background music (for example during an interview recorded at a public event) may be accepted at the discretion of Steampunk UK.
5. Broadcast Standards
Broadcasters agree to: treat guests respectfully; avoid discrimination or harassment; avoid defamatory statements; comply with British law; avoid hate speech; avoid promoting illegal activities; avoid excessive profanity; and accurately represent facts where possible. Steampunk UK may remove content that does not meet these standards.
6. Recording Ownership and Copyright Assignment
The broadcaster acknowledges and agrees that all recordings created specifically for broadcast through Steampunk UK — including audio recordings, interviews, edited programmes, promotional clips, introductions, voice recordings, graphics created for the programme and associated production materials — are assigned to Steampunk UK upon creation.
The broadcaster irrevocably assigns all copyright and related intellectual property rights in those recordings to Steampunk UK to the fullest extent permitted under British law. Steampunk UK becomes the owner of the master recordings. The broadcaster may retain copies for personal portfolios unless otherwise agreed.
7. Licence to Use Name and Image
The broadcaster grants Steampunk UK permission to use their name, stage name, photographs, biography, logos, social media links, promotional images and voice recordings for promoting the broadcaster and Steampunk UK.
8. Distribution
Steampunk UK may distribute programmes through any medium including the Steampunk UK website, podcasts, streaming services, YouTube, social media, archives and future broadcasting platforms, without additional approval.
9. Programme Scheduling
Steampunk UK determines the final broadcast schedule. Broadcast times may change where operationally necessary. Repeated failure to attend scheduled broadcasts may result in suspension or cancellation.
10. Community Conduct
Broadcasters agree to behave respectfully towards listeners, volunteers, staff, guests, sponsors, event organisers and community members. Bullying, harassment or disruptive behaviour may result in immediate removal.
11. Sponsorship and Advertising
Broadcasters must not sell advertising or sponsorship associated with their programme without prior written approval from Steampunk UK.
12. No Music Licensing
Broadcasters acknowledge that the platform is not currently licensed for music broadcasting; that they must not intentionally include copyrighted music in programmes; and that they are responsible for ensuring their content complies with copyright law.
13. Guest Responsibility
Broadcasters are responsible for obtaining permission from guests to be recorded. Guests should understand that recordings may remain publicly available indefinitely.
14. Removal of Content
Steampunk UK may remove, edit or discontinue any programme at its sole discretion.
15. Termination
Steampunk UK may suspend or terminate membership where a broadcaster: breaches these Terms; engages in unlawful conduct; repeatedly fails to broadcast; damages the reputation of Steampunk UK; or behaves in a manner inconsistent with the aims of the community.
16. Privacy
Personal information will be handled in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Contact details will not be sold to third parties.
17. Indemnity
The broadcaster agrees to indemnify Steampunk UK against claims arising from material supplied by the broadcaster that infringes copyright, defames another person or otherwise breaches the law.
18. Limitation of Liability
Steampunk UK is not liable for loss of data, interrupted broadcasts, technical failures or consequential losses except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
19. Changes to These Terms
Steampunk UK may update these Terms from time to time. Members will be notified of significant changes. Continued participation constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
20. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, the United Kingdom. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
